4 Jul 2019 Interview with wet plate photographer Shane Balkowitsch, who is releasing a book of his portraits of Northern Plains Native Americans.

Balkowitsch was given the name “Maa’ishda tehxixi Agu’agshi” (“Shadow Catcher”) by Calvin Grinnell of the Hidatsa-Mandan-Arikara Nation on October 28, 2018. Shane Balkowitsch never owned a camera before 2012 or had any interest in photography. His first camera was a large format bellows camera and from day one he pursued the historic wet plate collodion process from 1851 of pure silver on glass. 2020-03-27 · Directed by Chelsy Ciavarella, Gregory DeSaye.
